My 2X Great Grandparents were James J. Mitchell and Elender C. Green ofHackleburg, Marion County, Alabama.I have not been able to push back further than them.I have a cemetery transcription from a Marion Co. Cemetery Book.
It list:Elender C. Mitchell – Wife of J.J. Mitchell – Died Feb. 8, 1887 – Age 26.
Also in this cemetery is William A. Vance (their son-in-law), an infant daughter of J.J. & M. J. Mitchell (James second wife). There are 2 sons ofW.D. & Z. L. Mitchell, and a son of Joseph & Margaret Mitchell. The rest are Green’s.
I know that this is my Elender, which leads me to believe that the rest of the Green’s in this cemetery are related to her.The fact that the Mitchell’s and Green’s are the only ones using this cemetery (outside of the son-in-law, one unnamed Holcomb and Margaret Lolley, wife of J. H. Lolley*) would indicate there was a relationship.
I have always wondered if were possible that James could be the son of Joseph and Margaret Mitchell and a possible brother to W.D.In the 1860 Census Joseph E. Mitchell has a son named Joseph, is it possible that my James (J.J.) name could be James Joseph?I have tried to find out anything on the son Joseph listed on that census and have found nothing, could that be because his name is really James Joseph?
I would like anyone searching this line to contact me if you have further information on James and Elender or just to hear your opinions.
*James & Elender’s youngest daughter was Margaret, which no one seems to have anything on.Is it possible that their Margaret married J.H. Lolley and they buried her here because she is their daughter.
This transcription was contributed to the cemetery book by Joel Palmer and was copied April 1980.It is listed as: Unnamed Cemetery South of Hackleburg (Near Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church).I have also seen that there is suppose to be a Green Cemetery in the same area.I don’t live in Alabama but have been down there twice in the last couple of years and have not been able to find this cemetery.
Look forward to hearing from any of you searching this line.Songia
