I have an interest in Thomas Mitchelson of Huttons Ambo who married Margaret Frear on 8 January 1757 and had a son Christopher in 1758 at 1758. Huttons Ambo is 2 miles south west of Malton!
Oddly, Christopher's surname changed between 1798 and 1807 - his marriage bond and allegation of Oct 6, 1798 named him as Christopher Mitchelson and his bride to be as Mary Layton but 2 days later he married Mary Layton as Christopher Midgeley! Later there were entries for John Mitchison (bapt. Nov. 5, 1798) and Henry Mictchelson (bapt. 7 April 1805). Other children seem to be christened as Midgley.
The family appear to have moved to Acklam - Mary's home village in 1805. Land tax forms show Christopher renting land from Robt Berry (previously rented by Mary's father) - in 1806/7 as Mitchelson but from 1808 onwards as Midgeley.
Afraid have got no evidence of link to your Mitchelsons but seems likely that they were related - just wondered if any of the above ties in with what you've seen.
