Linda,JohnMitts is the first born son of Jacob Mitts, who is the first born son of Adam Mitts. Jacob Mitts was b 1776 in Virginia and moved with his parents to the vicinity of Curry Run, Harrison Co. Ky in the 1790's. There he m Mary Conyors. Jacob and his family survived "The Winter of the Deep Snow" as described in "The HIstory of the Early Settlers of Sangmon Co. IL" by Powers.David Herman, son-in-law of Jacob gave this account of it:"It rained for several days until the ground was saturated. Then the snow began to fall and continued to fall every day for six weeks.The family burned the rails from their fences and loose timber of every sort to keep from freezing."In spite of the hardships endured, all of the Jacob Mitts family, except one, remained in Sangamon Co. Il. Discouraged by the heavy snow, Jacobs oldest son, John returned to Grant Co. KY.John b. 25 May 1805 Harrison Co. KY m 6 Dec 1828 to Ann Webster b 20 Nov 1812, dau of Cornelius Webster of Virginia and of irish ancestry.After the Winter of the Deep Snow John and Ann returned to KY settling near Heekin, Grant Co. KY where all their children were born.In 1854 they moved to Clark Co.
