Maureen,
Although I know it doesn't help solve the bigger puzzle... (like Ray, I'm looking for the line that goes through John Mize of Pittsylvania)...Still I found this interesting:
Shepherd Mize graced us with a Revolutionary War pension application in 1832. In it, and in another statement by witnesses, his age is attested to as 71.Since these were sworn to on Dec 26th 1832, we can set his birth year pretty firmly at 1761.
In another affidavit for John Wright's pension, he states that he was 'born and raised' in Lunenburg County.
Shepherd's file is a gem for anyone following his line.It contains a letter from his son, Wiley, written from Alabama.Wiley states that his father married sometime around 1802, that his mother died in South Carolina and that Shepherd died in 1836 in Decalb County, Ga.
Lastly, for those keeping score at home....there is a John Mize in the Mecklenburg County Revolutionary War records.
