John,
I will give you a bit of background on my grandfather. The only information I have on him is what he himself gave on his service papers, marriage certificate and childrens' birth certificates. His parents were listed as William G. Moat Clifton and Annie Wright. I believe he was born in England, not quite sure where, as he gave Faversham, Deal, Wandsworth & London at different times. He always gave his birthday as January 16th, but the year varied....so somewhere between 1876 and 1884. At some point between the time he was born and the time he enlisted in the Canadian army in 1915, he arrived in Canada. I have no idea when, how, with whom. What I do know is that during the war he was sending part of his service pay to a Mrs. G. Moat (previously Sarah Ann Atkins)of Deal, Kent. I have since found out that she was Mrs George James Moat, son of George Manger Moat. I have no idea where the Clifton surname fits in. Any ideas?
