I need some help. I've been trying to find some information about my dad's side of the family. I have never tried anything like this before so any tips on finding information on the Mobleys is much appreciated! My great great grandfather, Solomon Mobley, came from or was born around Hinesville, GA. He moved to McAlpin, FL with his family. There he bought a farm and eventually his son, Willie Mobley, took over it. His sons, William Grant Mobley and Osborne Mobley bought it from him. William Grant Mobley is my grandfather. His sons, William Mobley and Grant Mobley own the farm today. William Grant Mobley's wife, Helen Gieger Mobley is still living. Solomon Mobley and William Grant Mobley are buried in the McAlpin Advent Christian church's cemetery, and I think Willie Mobley is buried there as well. This is as much as I know, except for a few bits of information my dad, William Mobley, gave me. Apparently Solomon Mobley killed a few men after a bet. One of the Mobleys was a sheriff here in Suwannee County (where McAlpin is located) The Mobleys possibly came over on the Mayflower. The King of England in the 12th or 13th century changed our name to Moberly (not sure of the spelling) after his tax collector was able to calm the people down after new taxes were imposed. Not long after arriving in America, the Mobley family had a dispute and one side moved to the west of the Mississippi. So I have distant relatives on the other side of the Mississippi and am somehow related to Mary Ann Mobley (Miss America '59). If anyone knows anything about Mobleys in GA or FL, please contact me. My email is email@example.com. I would love to know more about my dad's side of the family! Thanks! Scarlett Mobley P.s I'm not sure of the dates of when Solomon, Willie, William, and Osborne were living/moved to Florida. Like I said, I have little information on them.
