I am from the line of Moffats that came to Ontario Canada via Edinburgh, first to New York then back to Edinburgh, then to Quebec .... Guelph Ontario ... then Durham.
I have traced back to Henry Purvis Moffat (1806-1878) and wonder if he was Mary's brother. He married Margaret Young (1811-1886).Their children were: John, Thomas, Charles, George, Henry, Robert, Janet, Jeannie.Henry was a stock feeder in Edinburgh (I have an original document that lists him as stockfeeder No.2a.)Robin Moffat, Texas, a distant relative and fellow researcher, says that Henry Purvis Moffat's parents were Charles Moffat and Jean Bowhill. re Henry's children: Thomas ended up being a Singer Sewing Machine salesman but could have been involved in the NAVY when younger.John was a writer/editor of "Good Words" magazine in Edinburgh, deceased before age 30.Charles was a cabinetmaker (my g.g. grandfather).George was a cabinetmaker (via Louisville KY then to Marshall Texas).Henry was a lifetime Navy/sailor and ended up being Commodore of the P&O Steamship Fleet (and author of "FROM SHIP'S BOY TO SKIPPER"). Robert was a publisher in Edinburgh, then to Union Army Company E 94th Regiment, New York, then to New Orleans then to Mobile Alabama.Janet married Ebenezer Louden and Jeannie married Thomas Aimers.
Hope any of this info might be added to yours.Sincerely, Sandra Marie (Moffat) McGinn
