I am not a Monday researcher but am posting this in case it 'fits' for someone. A Mariah A. Monday b. March 1823 Alabama stated in various census her father born VA or Maryland, mother in Georgia and that she was born in Alabama.
She married first an unknown CHERRY by 1845 and had a daughter Elizabeth Carrie Cherry born May 1846 in Ripley, Tippah Co MS. I do not know what happened to husband #1 (Cherry) but she remarried by Aug 9 1860 an Absalom White born ca 1827 AL. The family shows on the 1860 census for Tippah Co MS. Daughter Eliza Cherry age 14 from first marriage is with them in the household with two new children: Mary F. White born ca 1857 MS and Thomas Jefferson White born 11 July 1859 d. 29 Feb 1940 Sandia, Jim Wells Co TX. Thomas Jefferson White's death cert is online and says his father was Absalom White his mother Mariah Monday.
Mariah (Monday) (Cherry) White is on the 1880 census for Johnson Co TX with daughter Elizabeth Carrie Cherry and half-brother Thomas Jefferson White. In 1900 census Mariah (Monday) (Cherry) White is living with her married daughter now E.C. Holt on Elm Street in Hillsboro, Hill Co TX. Mariah must have died before Apr 20 1910 as she does not show on that census. Her daughter Elizabeth Holt stayed in house on Elm St in Hillsboro but was enumerated 1920 and 1930 as Callie, Carry E Holt. She lived next door to Joseph Goodman who was her next door neighbor and informant on her death certificate Nov 31 1930 Hill Co TX as Mrs. E.C. Holt. (Elizabeth Carrie Cherry had 3 marriages: 1st to Little Berry Davis Sain in Texas who died 1 Oct 1882, then next to Frederick G. Heath on 19 Aug 1885 in Hill Co TX (his 3rd marriage), and after he died 18 Nov 1889 she married third on Nov 1890 an Unknown Holt who died in 1894. (This information from Conf pension application). Elizabeth did not remarry again after 1894.
The widow’s application for a pension from his civil war service: Mrs. E.C. Holt 605 W Elm St Hillsboro, Hill County, Texas filed 22 Oct 1926
“I am the widow of FG Heath deceased, who departed this life on 18 Nov 1889 in Hill County, Texas. I have remarried since the death of my husband and was never divorced from him. I married him on 19 Aug 1885 in Hill Co. TX. My husband enlisted and served in the military service of the Confederate States of the United States and did not desert. (She says she was writing this at age 81 and that her husband Fred G Heath served 4 years from Oct 1861 to 1865 in Co A, 12th Reg, Parsons Brigade, Texas Cavalry.’ There are two witnesses to the document: Mrs. H.E. Low and J.G. Goodman. Mrs. E. Holt further states under oath: “I am the same person who married F. Heath, sometimes known as F.G. Heath on 19 Aug 1885 and who died 18 Nov 1889. I afterwards married E.C. Holt on Nov 1890.The said E.C. Holt died in the year 1894 about four years after my marriage to him. I have never remarried since his death and am now a widow.” (Apparently she could not write because after this she ‘made her mark.’)
A letter dated 4 Nov 1926 to Honorable Olin Cuberson, Judge, Hillsboro, TX reads:
“Dear Sir, Agreeable to my letter of Oct 1925 you are advised that I have today received a favorable report on the service record of Mr. F. Heath, whose widow, Mrs. E.C. Holt is applying for Confederate pension. Therefore, this application is being approved. Mrs. Holt will receive notice of approval within the next few days accompanied by affidavit to be executed covering issuance of first quarterly warrant to which she will be entitled, which warrant will be mailed just prior to Thanksgiving day.” Signed by Comptroller
There is then an application for mortuary warrant for Mrs. Holt:
Mrs. Elizabeth C. (Heath) Holt, who was a pensioner of the State of Texas, and whose file number was 42519 died on 30 Nov 1930 in Hillsboro, Hill Co. TX. She died at the home of Mrs. C.W. Ing, a friend. Joe Goodman certifies that he is the person to whom is entrusted the paying of the accounts and indebtedness of Mrs. Holt. He is a friend who lives at 217 W. Elm St., Hillsboro, TX. Dr. Marshall was the undertaker and she was buried 1 Dec 1930. Her physician was H.H. Fuller who said she died of age and severe conditions caused by pneumonia.
There is a Texas Death certificate forMrs. E.C. Holt born 18 May 1846 TN (this in error) who died Nov 1930 in Hillsboro, Hill Co. TX.She died of pneumonia and senility. It does not give her first name but gives her fathers surname as Cherry( her mother Mariah Monday had married a man named Cherry before her marriage to Absalom White)) and her mothers name as Moriah Cherry. On the 1900 census she was Mariah White.. Mrs. E.C. Holt is buried in Old Cemetery, Hill Co. TX. The informant on her death certificate was the same Joe Goodman mentioned above who was responsible for paying her bills. He was her next door neighbor for many years on Elm St in Hillsboro, Hill Co TX and Mrs. E.C. Holt was senile at the time of her death.
