Your blog makes for great reading. And the names of most of the persons noted there are quite familiar to me, since I have spent most of the past year virtually living in the history of the Middle Ages, researching the ancestry of Mayflower Passenger Richard More.
Richard was one of 5 Mayflower persons in my mother's ancestry and was the only person on the Mayflower with proven royal ancestry. Through his mother, Katherine More, he was related to almost every royal person in England and a number of other countries of that era and earlier times to Roman-era Britain, as well as many well-known historic persons of the Middle Ages.
Although the Simon de Montfort who died at Evesham in 1265 was not my ancestor, a number of persons from his ancestryin the 12th century (also named Simon de Montfort)were.
As far as I can find, Simon was not a descendant of William the Conqueror, who had nine children with his wife and no illegitimate children (unusual for the time). But Simon's wife Eleanor of England was a descendant of William the Conqueror from her father, King John. John's ancestry goes back like this -
his father: Henry II
Henry's father: Geoffrey Plantagenet
Geoffrey's wife was 'Empress' Matilda, the only surviving child of Henry I. Henry's father was Wm. the Conqueor (King William I).
I have accumulated about 800+ sheets on the various lines of ancestry of Richard More. (I also have a 17th century English immigrant Rev. Wm. Skepper who also had proven royal ancestry). If you are interested, I can detail more about Richard's treasure-trove of royal and historic ancestors. I've told some folks I'm about ready for my Ph.D. in Middle Ages History!
I enjoy researching that era.

Alton Rogers
