Louisiana German Coast Montz Family 1759

The Montz Family of the Louisiana German Coast originated with a son of Joseph Montz and Anna Maria Laub of Alsace. About 1759 Antoine Montz, Joseph Montz Jr and Eve Bridget Montz arrived in French colonial Louisiana along with their stepfather, Christophe Achtziger. The family settled along the east bank of the Mississippi River about 27 miles above New Orleans at an area known as Côte des Allemands, the German Coast, because of the many families of Germanic heritage who were living there since the 1720s.The area is currently known as St Charles and St John the Baptist Parishes of Louisiana. Joseph Montz Jr left no children but his younger brother, Antoine Montz, left many descendants.
