Here is yet another Update to our Moody family tree that I had no idea of. Again, this comes from William C. MOODY's branch (son of Lt./Capt. Joseph Moody and his 2nd wife Hannah Mitchell of Brunswick, ME). William C. MOODY who married 2nd to Mrs. Mary F. (nee Remick) Eaton, also had a daughter named Affie H. MOODY who was b. c1882. In Oct. 1906 Brunswick, ME she married Harrison G. (Gray) REDLON who was age 34 at the time (b.1872). Harrison G. REDLON (as he always spelled his name) was born in Buxton, York Co., ME (same place my 5th grt. grandparents were married and my 3rd grt. grandfather lived with his 1st wife and his 1st 3 children were born there, and where his older sister and brother were also married, and where his sister Sarah "Sally" Moody married Simon NEWCOMB and raised part of their family before moving to Harrison, Cumberland Co., ME).
Harrison G. REDLON was a son of Lorenzo E. (prob. Emery) REDLON and Mehitable WEBSTER of Buxton, ME. Harrison's brief lineage line (not entirely verified by me as yet, I have more research to do on this, but tentatively it looks as though the line goes back from Harrison like this....) Harrison > Lorenzo E. > James M. > Isaac H. > Ebenezer > Magnus REDLAND/Redlon b. 1674 in ORKNEY, Scotland. (this has been verified that this Magnus Redland/Redlon/Ridlon did exist and was born in 1674 Orkney a son of Thomas Redland and Barbara Laughton). This is the 3rd ancestor from Orkney who came to York Co., ME that shows up in my James Moody family tree. Did my James Moody also come from there as well in these early to mid 1700's??
Anyway, from Harrison Gray REDLON's WWI draft registration card I found that he was born Oct. 13, 1872 and that he gave his full name as shown above, that he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office, he names his nearest relative as his wife Affie H. (nee Moody) Redlon and that he lived at 37 Clemons St. in So. Portland, ME. His height was given as Med., build- Med., eyes - blue and hair - brown.
Going back to the Census' to search for Lorenzo, Harrison's father, I found the following info: 1850 Buxton, York Co., ME - Aug. 10th- James M. RIDLON (spelled that way) age 41 farmer b. ME Mehitable age 41 (supposedly nee WEBSTER, I need to verify this for myself however) b. ME Eliza S. age 13 Susa S. 12 LORENZO E. age 10 b. ME Avery or possibly a misspelling of "Emery" L. (male) age 8 and Mary RIDLON age 63 (so b.c1787) b. ME who I suspect is James mother whose name was given in the online genealogies that I viewed as "Mercy" EMERY b.1785.
By the 1870 Buxton, York Co., ME census dated July 15th I found: James M. RIDLON age 60 (b.c1810) farmer b. ME Mehitalbe age 61 (b.c1809) b. ME and LORENZO age 30 farmer b. ME
1900 Portland, Cumberland Co., ME census dated June 4th Lorenzo E. REDLON b. Apr. 1840 age 60 married 29 yrs. day laborer b. ME ME ME Fannie wife b. Mar. 1847 age 53 2 kids 2 living b. ME ME ME HARRISON G. son b. Oct. 1872 age 27 single Machinist b. ME ME ME and Mabel F. daug. b. Nov. 1875 agfe 24 single -telephone clerk b. ME ME ME
1910 So. Portland, ME living on Clemons St. Harrison G. REDLON age 37 letter carrier 1st marriage married 3 yrs. b. Buxton, ME Affie H. age 27 b. Brunswick, ME
1920 So. Portland, ME Jan. 12th still living on Clemons St. Harrison G. REDLON age 47 owns his own home - machinist b. ME ME ME Affie H. wife age 37 b. ME ME ME (apparently Affie never had any children)
1930 So. Portland, ME still living on Clemons St. Harrison G. REDLON age 57 property value $6,000.00 age 33 Salesman b. ME ME ME Affie listed as "Effie" H. - wife age 47 who has a job now which I cannot for the life of me read (page is blurry), b. ME ME ME. What is really funny is that the last time I was in Maine doing research and visiting what family members were still living, we came across a picture of a house in South Portland that said on the back "the William Moody house". My grt. aunt who was still living at the time, said she had No idea whose house that was. Now I know...it was William C. MOODY's house where he lived with his 2nd wife Mary F. (Remick) and some of his children Edna Ione Moody and Affie H. Moody most likely lived there as well before they married. So this was exciting to find these children of his living in So. Portland perhaps near where their parents had lived as well before they passed on and to be able to sew up another small piece of our family puzzle. Hope this extra info is helpful to my Moody cousins out there. Most of this has been verified by me and most of the info comes from Birth, Marriage, Death, Census, Military registration records etc. There is still some of the as I noted, that needs to be verified and I will try to do that as soon as I can.
