While researching a line of Moody's the other day I stumbled onto this from an old History book on Skuykill Co., PA (or Skuykill, PA not sure which is correct). At first I didn't think much of it, but now that I can't find squat about this family line before this Abraham, I am curious since this is a name that appears in one of our proven Ydna lines several times dating back to the Lenamore/Magilligan area of Co. L'derry, Nor. Ireland. This particular Abraham Moody was said to be of Carlisle, PA but sometime around c1855 he removed to Phoenixville, Chester Co., PA where he remained until his death in 1877 at which time he was said to be in his 80's (almost 85 yrs. old that's why I guesstimated his birth year at around c1793).
He had a son named Joseph MOODY b. July 1826 who was born in Carlisle, PA. Joseph went initially with his Dad Abraham to Phoenixville but later removed to Tremont, PA.He was a moulder by trade. He and a Mr. Reese had a company known as Reese & Moody.Joseph married Elmira DEIBLER.I think the only sons he had that lived to adulthood were William E. MOODY, Charles W. Moody a druggist and Harry P. MOODY a conductor with the Rail Road. I think most of them stuck around the area of Tremont, PA. Tremont by the way is in Skuykill Co., PA.I think William E. Moody was a druggist as well but his brother Charles apparently also one lived in Reading, PA. At least that's how I think I'm reading this...its all run together and these old books are often hard to determine who they are specifically talking about. William E. Moody m. Alice SMITH daug. of Harry and Bettie of Donaldson, Skuykill Co., PA poss. around c1897, not sure of date.
Oh I should also have mentioned earlier that Joseph Moody and Elmira Diebler had daughters too...Clara J. who died a son John who died, Ella M. who married a Harry ADAMS of Tremont, Irene E. Moody who died or was deceased at the time of this writing, and a Mary B. MOODY who m. R.S.BASHORE an attorney in Tremont, PA. *************************** That's basically all the info. listed, there is no details of who Abraham's wife was or where his family came from prior to showing up in Carlisle, PA, but its entirely possible they are from the John MOODY line of Hartford, CT who had family descendants in PA, but I'm not certain they were in these particular areas of PA. Its also Possible that this Abraham MOODY could be attached to our Ydna family branch too...I'm not discounting anything at this point. If anyone has further info on this branch of Moody's I would be Most greatful to learn about them. Do they in any way attach to those MOODY's who came to PA but removed to Augusta Co., VA ??(early brothers James and Robert MOODY of Staunton area VA??) They were said to have come south from PA. If this is the case then this name of "Abraham" could be Very significant to our Ydna Moody branch in that the names of James and Robert are also heavily used in our branches. I have always felt there is a connection to those Moody's of Augusta Co., VA but without further details its hard to say without Ydna Proof. Thanks again for anything further anyone out there might have on this line of Moody's of Carlisle, PA.
