MOODY's of Co. Down, No. Ireland
In a sort of follow-up to my last posting of about a week ago, here are some more MOODY's from Northern Ireland who may or may not be linked to our Ydna Moody's of the Magilligan and Aghadowey areas of Co. L'derry or the other Ydna Moody's of the Balnamore/Ballymoney, Co. Antrim areas.
Again this info is taken from PRONI wills and birth, marriage and death extracts, some gravestone information, some info from the generosity of others who have looked up and shared what info they found (namely Louise and Debbie in most of these cases) and other info is from what I can find online via genealogical websites (IGI records from the OPR's when available...Rootsweb etc) that may or may not have sources cited and I will try Note that as I come to it.
From PRONI wills -
James MOODY of Clontinaglare, Co. Down, farmer who died Nov. 16, 1883. His will was dated Oct. 24, 1883.
He married Matilda McEWAN on Aug. 31, 1875 in Ballymacashen Reformed Presbyterian Church in Killinchy. James age was given as 33 yrs. and Matilda's 29 yrs.James father was listed as James MOODY who was at the time of his son James marriage, already deceased.
In this James (Jr. for clarity's sake...or the James Moody of Clontinaglare), in his will he names his children- James; William; Hugh and Robert Alexander MOODY and his sister Mary Ann MOODY but does not name his sister Margaret (Moody) PATTERSON.He also names his Uncle Hugh MOODY and his wife Jane (nee CLELAND).
James, Jr's, Father's will -
James MOODY of Barnamaghery, Co. Down, Nor. Ireland was dated March 7, 1871. This James Moody, (Sr. for clarity or James of Barnamaghery), mentions his children, and mentions his daughter Mary Ann MOODY first, indicating to me that his wife had already passed on.He then names his sons James and a William Moody who he says is "in America". He also names his grandson James Moody who is also "in America" indicating that his son William Moody named a son after his father.
This James MOODY, Sr. died on March 10, 1872.
Another will of a Robert MOODY, laborer also of Barnamaghery, who married a Jane STEWART/Stuart of Clontinaglare on June 2, 1854 lists his father as James MOODY a farmer. (so it seems likely that this Robert and James, Jr. above were brothers or perhaps 1st cousins and both sons of James MOODY, Sr. of Barnamaghery.Since Robert seems to have married 1st in 1854 while his father James was still living and then James, Jr. didn't marry until he was 33 years old in 1875 after his father had died, still seems within reason that Robert and James, Jr. were brothers.James, Jr. marrying at age 33 might also be an indication that he had been previously married too. There is a 21 yr. gap in years here between the two's marriages. If James, Jr. were age 33 in 1875 when he married that puts his birth year at around c1842.Guesstimating that Robert Moody was at least age 24 yrs. old when he married in 1854 that would make his birth year at around c1830 which indeed shows that these two could have been brothers and both sons of the named James MOODY, Sr. of Barnamaghery, Co. Down.
I still have some work to do on this research so this is just tentative for now.
Another will of this area was that of Hugh MOODY, farmer of Clontinaglare who married Jane CLELAND daug. of John CLELAND who was deceased at the time of their marriage.
Hugh lists his father as Robert MOODY, farmer who was deceased also. Hugh and Jane married on Dec. 21, 1852.
Again, guesstimating that Hugh Moody married by at least age 25, this would set his birth year at around c1827.
It is my belief after reading his will that his father Robert and the James, Sr. above were brothers.
Hugh MOODY's will names his wife Jane (viz CLELAND as it is shown in the will), and he names his "nephew" James MOODY and Gawn CLELAND (possibly a brother or no doubt a family member of his wifes), both men of Clontinaglare and farmers (so this is James MOODY, Jr. of Clontinaglare who married Matilda McEwan above) as his Executors to his will. He names James MOODY, Jr's. sisters, Mary Ann MOODY and Margaret (Moody) PATTERSON etc. and his witnesses were Wm. Pentland and David Dugan.

That is all for now. I will post more as I am able to put this together. I believe all of the above info., will data to be correct as it came from PRONI records, the marriage dates were verified by someone who has access to these records as well so I believe them to be correct, the only parts that may not be correct in this posting is my own guesstimates at the birth years of those noted and the guesstimates of the possible brothers and fathers. However, where I have noted the fathers from the marriage records is correct.
I hope this is helpful and that I didn't make any typo's.
