CASKEY/Caskie women who have married MOODY men and whom I believe all of them are related to our Ydna proven Moody lines of Nor. Ireland.
Matthew MOODY who m. Leticia/Letitia CASKEY
Hugh Gage MOODY who m. Rebecca Ann CASKEY
and Israel MOODY who m. Elizabeth CASKEY/Caskie (McCaskey etc.) - they removed to Kings Co., Nova Scotia c1841 (landed at NY on ship "Europe" in Jan. 1841 with large family..."Isl" as Israel's name was shown at the top of the list of his MOODY family (which has been mistaken over the years as the name of "James" for some reason??...it is NOT its an abbreviation of Israel), his wife Elizabeth (nee Caskey) and their children which included twin boys, James and John who also died around the same time of each other as well in Nova Scotia.
Israel MOODY was a son of Alexander Moody (Mudie) and Priscilla DICK of the Lenamore/Magilligan area of Co. L'derry, N. Ire. even though Israel was found living in the Aghanloo area of Co. L'derry prior to removing to Nova Scotia n 1841 (potato famine).
Matthew MOODY and wife Letitia Caskey lived in the Cashel area of Co. L'derry and he was a son or descendant of Thomas MOODY and Mary GAGE.
Hugh Gage MOODY and wife Rebecca Ann CASKEY were also from the same area of Co. L'derry as his brother Matthew above.
Matthew and Hugh's brother John MOODY whom if I recall married a Morrison woman and they had a son also named Hugh Gage MOODY who became a Presbyterian minister and came to Pennsylvania and married a SLOAN woman.Hugh's brother Samuel MOODY also became a Presbyterian minister and he too came to PA and married.
Our proven Ydna (definitely show signature early Norse ancestry...just like the CASKEY line claims), MOODY cousins lines from the Lenamore/Magilligan area, we believe link to these MOODY's of Cashel and we also know we have Ydna MOODY cousins from the Ballymoney, Co. Antrim area of Nor. Ireland as well of whose line married into the LESLIE, CRAIGHEAD, GETTY (Geddis/Gaddis various spellings), LYNCH, and other family lines of that area.We found that Matthew MOODY above named a John MOODY, blacksmith of Ballymoney, Co. Antrim as one of his Executors to his estate on his will and we think this shows some sort of link between the two lines of MOODY's that we match Ydna to.
This particular Matthew MOODY was of Cullyvenny, Co. L'derry who was married to a "Mary".Her maiden name was not given in this particular Matthew Moody's will dated Sept. 5, 1860 [PRONI].
In it he names wife Mary; daug. Elizabeth[Moody]; son Thomas James[Moody]; son Robert John[Moody], son Joseph[Moody] (who became the Rev. Joseph Archibald MOODY we do believe from info taken from his will at a later date), and a daughter Mary MOODY.
Witnesses to his will were Dr. Alexander LANE and the John MOODY of Ballymoney, Co. Antrim mentioned above who I believe is either a brother of this Matthew's and the reason I say this is because there is a letter of Admin. stating that this John MOODY of Ballymoney is at least 21 years of age, so he could also be a son of this Matthew's I suppose if there was some discrepancies about his being old enough to serve as an Executor.
[NOTE the Rev. Joseph Archibald MOODY's will was dated Jan. 8, 1898, he of Cullybacky, Co. Antrim, Nor. Ireland-PRONI]
In his will he names his "brother Robert John MOODY" of Castlemaine, Australia. He bequeaths to a Mrs. Mary CHRISTIE of Drummaul and Ellen CHRISTIE. His Executors are Joseph GALLOWAY and Wm. Henry ANDREWS (both men of Belfast). He also leaves to his sisters children: - Mary; Maggie; Hessie?; Joseph; Emily and Ada GALLOWAY (so perhaps the Joseph GALLOWAY named as his Executor was his brother-in-law).
Witnesses to his will were Dr. James SIMPSON, surgeon and James KNOWLES of Cullybacky.I am also guessing that the "sister" he mentions in his will was his sister Mary who is named as one of the last two children of their father Matthew's will, so Mary and Joseph would have been close in age to each other.
Since the children of his sister that he names includes the names of Mary and Joseph[Galloway], this is how I came to this conclusion. The Rev. Joseph also left money to the Cullybacky Reformed Presbyterian Church so I am guessing that is where he was the minister.
I do not know if this wife "Mary" of Matthew MOODY's is the Leticia CASKEY he married and perhaps Mary was her given name (Mary Letitia?? or vice versa)_, but it seems possible that this Matthew might be related somehow to the Thomas MOODY & Mary GAGE line of Cashel, Co. L'derry who descend from a Henry MOODY who came over from Scotland (where unknown but possibly the Paisley, Renfrew area or the Dunfermline, Fife area or the Ayrshire area of Scotland).
Our name has been found spelled in the earliest existing church records that we can find of Co. L'derery and Co. Antrim as MUDIE and MOODIE.
There were MOODIE's on the Abercorn Estate in Strabane, Co. Tyrone back to the early 1700's and one of them was a Matthew, Samuel, William and John MOODY I believe. Some of them, or their descendants were known to head to Co. L'derry at some point in time.
We are making very slow progress with our MOODY family trees and branches, but through the family's of those to whom they married into, we are able to learn a lot more and put a lot of the missing puzzle pieces together.
The Ydna (genetic) testing results have been a huge help to us in that it has thus far shown we do NOT link to the English line of MOODY's who came there from the Cromwellian days. Those lines have also been ydna tested more so than any other branches, and we still continue to Not link up to any of them.
Our branch of MOODY's is so far a proven (via Dr. Ken Nortdvedts tireless efforts and research) to be of an ancient Norwegian ancestry which went into Scotland, Ireland, England, France, Germany all over that region and has obviously left our Ydna on every port as is shown by our Numerous list of Other surname ydna fairly close matches). We are of the "I1d" (eye-one 'D') haplotype for those of you familiar with the ydna results and our SNP's actually changed our Haplotype from I1a to I1d with the presence of L22+.
I hope this extra bit of into may be helpful to others researching these lines from Nor. Ireland too.
If you can add to this info/family tree we would be most greatful.
Thank You.
