Greetings, I have some details which may be of interest to those researching my branch of the Moorfield name. Our family bible was given to me recently and from that book the following had been recorded,
Richard Moorfield (B:1827 @ Pemberton, Lancashire, England) started the bible notes and married Elizabeth Fairhurst (B:1832 @ Aughton, Lancashire, England) in 1849. The had the following children,
1. Richard Moorfield B:1849 2. Peter Edward Moorfield B:1852 D:1854 3. Peter Edward Moorfield B:1855 D:???? 4. John Moorfield B:1859 5. Paul Moorfield B1865 D:1943 buried at Albury NSW Austr 6. George James Moorfield B:1861 D:1862 7. George James Moorfield B:1866 D:1921 buried at Sth Melbourne Austr 8. Elizabeth Ellen Moorfield B:1870 D:1871 9. Noah Moorfield B:1872 D:1872 10. Mary Hannah Mariah Moorfield B:1872 D:1876
Based on the above I have found the following on the Internet,
The 1881 UK census reports that Richard (age 54 Sn Eng Driver LYR), Elizabeth (age 49), Paul (age 16 Sadler apprentice) and George James (age 14 scholar) living at 67 Poulton Rd, North Meols, Lancashire, England.
The Unassisted Immigration to Victoria (Australia) records show that Richard (age 57) travelled on the "Yarra Yarra" with son George James (age 17) to Australia. In 1888 Paul (age 23) travelled on the Liguria.
I have no records on the whereabouts of the rest of the family and would be interested to learn why the family did not emigrate. My (internet) research shows that the parents of Richard may be John Moorfield and Mary ?? born pre 1800. While in Australia Paul married Annie Elizabeth Dornan in Corowa, NSW in 1892.Paul ran a Saddler & Harness business at Howlong in NSW and died in 1943 at Albury. They had the following children,
1. Paul E Moorfield 2. John Butterworth Moorfield 3. Albert Dornan Moorfield 4. Annie LV Moorfield 5. Dorothy E Moorfield 6. Gertrude E Moorfield (based on a birth note posted on the net in Austr)
I found some Aust Govt WW1 records for John Butterworth on the internet - he survived that period and returned to Australia - no other info available. Albert married Josephine Mary Reynolds and they had two children, Geoffrey Dornan and Betty. Geoff is my father who died in 2004 in Qld Australia. I have one brother, Gary and one sister Jennifer, all of us in our 40's.
I welcome feedback from anyone who may be able to fill in some gaps on the UK side
