Dennis, Thomas More II and Mary Scrope had thirteen children. Their eldest daughter, Mary, was born at Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, on 25 December 1553. The event is recorded in the family's 'Book of Hours'. The family was Catholic and their births and marriages were not recorded in the then Church of England Parish Registers. Mary married Edward Moore, son of Thomas Moore - an unrelated Catholic family from Lower Haddon in the Parish of Bampton, Oxfordshire. Edward and Mary had seven children - all recorded in various family documents: Isabel, Joan, Henry, Thomas, Grace, Anne & Frances. Three of the daughters became Benedictine Nuns at Convents in Catholic Europe. The two sons both became Jesuit Priests.
I am pleased to have seen the mistake you picked up in Ancestry.com. Any chance of telling them about it so that it can be changed?
I believe Ancestry.com also records that Mary and Edward Moore (of Lower Haddon/Bampton) had a son John, born 1584, who married an Elizabeth Merritt and who emigrated to Virginia in the 1620s and had descendants there. As you see from what I said above this is an invention - but endlessly repeated as 'established' on RootsWeb and other Genealogy sites. Best wishes, Martin
