I'd like to piggyback on what Marilyn was saying because I too would like to discover the connection between the Pa Moreharts and the Ohio Moreharts. I am convinced (although I have only circumstantial evidence) that John & Mary's son Jacob was not their first born, was actually born in 1790 and is buried in Lycoming County, PA and is the catalyst for all the so-called Pennsylvania Morehart's. If you have any information on Jacob Morehart, son of John & Mary, it would help my obsession as well as Marilyn's search. I have come to even question whether or not Kitty Alspach was ever married to Jacob and if so, did he divorce her. I can reference several LDS files that show John Bensinger as her husband and he shows up in Heinrich Alspach's (Kitty's Dad) will as his son-in-law. I have found no referenced information on Jacob when he was in Ohio. No marriage certificate, cemetery plot, etc. All I can find is his War of 1812 record and the good possibility of him having 4 children who show up in Indiana without him. Sorry for the rambling, I am truly obsessed and I am searching for that one substantial piece of proof that will mesh the puzzle together.
As with the Jacob mystery, we have hashed over the 800 page Morehart book in our Morehart Family Tree website (55 members now) and the biggest voice of question for some of the John Morehart/Mary Alspach information is the book's author, Joretta Jaynes. She has written several questioning arguments regarding the legitamacy of John & Mary's first few children and John & Mary's possible marriage. Keep in mind that the Heidleberg church records show that John and Anna Maria Siglin were the parents of Johannes Christian and Elizabeth. That's not to say that I question most of the info in the book because I don't. I consider it a remarkable work whose information is very well researched and amazingly accurate, but corrections have been made and will be made as more info appears. Some of the info is based on the research of Helen Fritz in Bloomsburg, PA and even Joretta is trying to find out her sources, if not to cast doubt, certainly to reinforce their accuracy.
Any information regarding these subjects, especially Jacob and Jacob's supposed four children - Washington, William Josiah, Sarah, and Maria, would be appreciated.
