Just a follow up to my research. My Father was Wilbert J Morell Jr, his father was Wilbert J Morell Sr, my great grandfather was John Morell, and my great great grandfather was Samuel Morell who married Hannah Evans and they both came from the Townland of Moneydig in Northern Ireland, Smeuel's father's name was John Morell and may have used the spelling of Murrell on some occassions. He actually has his name on some kind of a coin from that area and time in the early 1800s. I believe samuel had a brother John, Alexander, Nathaniel, and William and maybe a sister named Mary who also showed up in the same location at the same time.
If I remember correctly this is a time when Ireland was fighting from Catholic Emancipation with England and France was sympathetic to Ireland. Northern Ireland was mostly protestant back then as it is now. The only Churches I could find in Money dig or most of the county for that matter were Presbretarian and the Church Of Ireland.
Another straw in the hay is that the name Morell as it is spelled has been in Germany for centuries.
The meaning of the name Morell is Dark Horse. You can guess what the means. Could the name have derived from Spain or even darker, like Africa. Who knows, who cares.
