Sorry, my dad advised me of other corrections that had to be made.
Looking for info on, and descendants of Mortimer Moriarity and Mary O'Shea Moriarity who emigrated from Caherciveen, Kerry (c 1885) to Brooklyn NY. Children: William, Dennis, Edward, John (Joe), Mary (May), Grace (m. James Doyle). They owned a tenament in Brooklyn where they rented rooms.
Mortimer (c 1860- 1934) was a longshoreman at the Brooklyn shipyard. Due to circulatory problems he had one leg amputated. We know of one 1st cousin, Michael(?)Moriarity whose son John Moriarity, had a chair on the NYSE and lived in the Queens area. John, in turn, had a son named John (possibly an electrician). There is also speculation that the 2nd "i" was dropped by this branch.
Mary (c 1860-1935) was the daugther of Michael O'Shea and Hannah/Hanora O'Connell (both born c 1840). Michael died early in life and Hannah/Hanora married a man named Foley who raised her children. They also had several children of their own. Mary, her sister Helen (Nellie), and a 3rd unk sister emigrated to Brooklyn NY together. Mary stayed in NY and married Mortimer. Nellie and the unk sister went on to San Francisco, CA. Nellie was a "mail order bride" for John Leahy, a widower with several children. They also had children of their own. The Foley family moved to the NY area some time after that. It's not known if Hannah/Hanora was alive at that time. Interesting note: Mary kept the "O" in Shea and Nellie dropped it.
Known family surnames from that time: Moriarity, O'Shea, Foley, Leahy, Fair, Walt, Bush, McInerny, Stelling, Thompson.
