Barbara Moritz Kettenhofen's sister, Anna Barbara Moritz Theisen, was my grandmother.
Don't know a lot about the Moritzes; am researching to find out more. Anna Barbara was born in the City of Bourne a La Sauer in Luxemburg on Aug. 14, 1887. She and her other sister Suzanne traveled from Antwerp, Belgium, aboard the steamship "Finland" and arrived at Ellis Island in New York on Sept. 13, 1904.
From New York, the two of them traveled to Dubuque IA, where Anna lived with Barbara Kettenhofen and her husband for awhile. Suzanne had evidently been in Dubuque for some time before she went back to Luxemburg to "bring her sister Anna to the U.S." I believe Suzanne later became a Becker, but have no other information about her.
Anna married John Nicholas Theisen (b: 5/14/1862; d: 12/22/1940, buried in Dubuque IA) in Dubuque IA on Sept. 27, 1906. In 1908, the couple moved to Lipscomb, TX, with their first son, Leo (b: 8/6/1907). They lived in Lipscomb until their deaths. Granddad owned the Lipscomb Hotel, which Grandma helped to run. They had seven children:
Leo Aloysius (b: 8/6/1907 in Dubuque; d: 5/11/88 CA);
Clara Margaret (b: 4/13/1909, Lipscomb TX);
George Moritz (b: 4/20/1911, Lipscomb TX; d: Amarillo, TX);
John Henry (b: 11/23/13 in Aransas Pass TX; d: 6/26/1986, San Antonio TX, buried in Lipscomb TX);
Oscar William (b: 2/20/1915, Quanah, TX; d: 4/8/1988, Midland TX, buried in Kermit TX)
Louise Frances (my mother), (b: 3/11/1917, Aransas Pass TX; d: 4/2/2003, Shattuck OK, buried in Higgins TX)
