Do you find a connection for Elijah, b. abt. 1764 in Hatfield MA, to these families?
According to the Ancestral File (or the IGI?), Richard Morton of Hartford CT (down the Connecticut River from Hatfield), born 1640/1649, married Ruth __ of Hatfield MA and they had children born in Hatfield, Hampshire, MA: Abraham, John (b & d 1670), Joseph, John, Elizabeth, Ebenezer, Jonathan, Thomas, and Richard (unclear where Richard was born). Other Mortons lived in nearby Whately.
Abrahammarried Sarah Kellogg8 May 1701 in Hatfield. Their children were Abraham, Richard, Abigail (d 1715), Sarah, Samuel, Abigail (b 1722), Kellogg , Noah, and Daniel.
Richard, son of Abraham, was born 1 Oct 1704. He married Mary Waite in Hatfield. They moved to Athol, Worchester, MA and had eight children: Benjamin, Samuel, Martin, Jeremiah, Abraham, Margery, Mary, and Submit. The Town Deaths of Athol list about sixty persons surnamed Morton from 1770 to the mid 1800s. Athol is on Miller's Creek, waters of the Connecticut River.
Great-grandparents of Martin Morton, son of Richard, were surnamed Morton, ___, Kellogg, Root, Waite, Leonard, Graves, and White. All were born in MA or CT except Samuel Kellogg (ENG) and perhaps Ruth ___ (unk).
Seven of Martin Morton's sons were in the census of 1810 for Oneida County, New York. The location of his two older sons in 1810 are unknown (possibly up the Connecticut River from Hatfield in VT where a namesake, Seth, was born and who went to Oneida County NY).
Earlier possibly related families lived in Tauton MA about 22 miles west of Plymouth. One, Marcus, remained after 1800 and had about ten children there.
I believe my ancestor was a granddaughter of Martin Morton.
