Thanks so much, I should check this forum more often. I was able to get a copy of the sale docs from the county historical society. I think this sale occurred after his wife died. I have the list of property including the slaves names. None of the names were familiar. I am trying to see who owned my family members when they were children in the early 1800s so I can get a better handle on their lives at that time. According to some civil war records I know other planters, for ex. Josiah Felix owned a possible relative but the slave took the surname Mosby. I take that to mean that the Mosby family may have been my family's original owners. I know some of the earlier slaves were born in Virginia so I think they came to KY with the first Mosby settlers. Would you happen to have any family business records from that time period? I know many business transactions and daily farm activities were recorded in the 19th century.
