What do you have on the Leftwiches? My Mozleys were in Louisa Co., VA by 1750, then Amherst? and/or Bedford Co., VA by 1760, and then Bedford Co., VA before 1788.They moved to GA about 1790.Walter Mozley, presumed brother of Edward (oral history) was the over-seer for Thomas Jefferson on some of his properties.Edward, my ancestor, lived and owned land in Amherst. He was younger than Walter by a few years.Edward is said by some researchers to have been born c 1735, but I believe that he was born a few years earlier because he and Walter witnessed a deed in Louisa Co in 1750.
There is no record that we can find that they had a sister-altho in the oral history that Norman Adolphus Mozley wrote down for his niece, as told to him by his grandfather, there is said to have been a sister who married Obediah Trent. It has been proven that this was actually a daughter of Walter who married Obediah Trent. So we have assumed that there was no sister.
There was another Mosley family in Bedford Co., VA-I believe that the head was John Mosley but I am not sure.We have not been able to establish any relationship between the families-the Mozleys by DNA being unique from all the other Moseley/Mosley/Mosely families in VA in the 1700s.
I am curious tho about this, wondering if there Walter and Edward had a sister.I am not sure that they had the social and economic presence to have married into the Leftwich family tho. That was an important consideration back in those days.
