This is to offer a challenge to Researchers of the line of Edward Moss b.abt.1610 Laancaster, Lancastershire, England and d.1Jul.1685 Yorktown, York VA married to Ann Bridgette Beltchourton (or Belt) b.abt.1684 Lancaster, Lancastershire, England and d.aft.1700 Yorktown, York, VA and their 4 Children also born same location in England: Thomas Moss b.1631 Robert Moss b.1633 William Moss b.1634 Edward Moss b.1637 My issue is with the wife of William Moss b.1634 and I offer a challenge to anyone who can source who she is for certain from Sources other thas someone's published Tree or Genealogy. Many claim she is "Lady Jane Bridget North" and is the daughter of Sir Dudley North of Kirtling, Cambridgeshire, England.Another Researcher Malcom Page has convinced me in private discussion that Medieval Scholars definitely prove Sir Dudley had no daughter by that name and I am convinced he is correct. I have done a fair bit of research looking for the source of this information (mistake?) and find only References to other's Trees or private e-mails they have recieved. I suggest that possibly the first person to make any connection to Lady Jane North was Rose Moss Scott in her published 1926 "Chronicles of the Moss Family".In that 36 page Family History she says beginning on p.4 that "The progenitor of this line of the Moss family in America was Edward Moss, who settled in York Co VA and died there in 1646.He came from Lancaster County, England."She then lists his sons as Robert, Thomas, Edward, and William.and says the 3 other than Edward came to Rappahannock VA.And finally that "William Henry Moss was the son of William Moss and his wife, Lady Jane North. He was born in 1668 in Rappahonnock..."Ms Scott does not comment on the parentage of "Lady Jane North". There is not one single Source record in the "Chronicles of the Moss Family" Book so we do not know why she thinks William's wife was Jady Jane North. My speculation is that some future researcher has without records made a link to Sir Dudley North and future Researchers have just copied other's statements. If one of the Moss, North or other Researchers has independent Source information (other than what someone has listed in someone else's Tree or Genealogy), I would greatly appreciate their sharing it. I know Malcom Page is in process of collecting information on an extensive Data Based presentation of the case "Lady Jane is most definitely not the daughter of Sir Dudley North of Kirtling" and in due course, he will post that to the community. Maybe this posting will get some discussion going on the issue.Malcom suggested I do this am so posting my information and speculation.
