Archibald Mosman was born in Scotland in 1799.As a young man he became a sugar planter in the West Indies.He emigrated to Australia in 1828 and with his brother, George, set up in business on George Street.In 1830, he established the whaling enterprise in Great Sirius Cove which later became known as Mosman's Bay.He sold the whaling business in 1838 and established himself on grazing properties in Northern N.S.W.On this property he was instrumental in establishing the town of Glen Innes.
Mosman retired to Randwick and died on 29 Jan 1863.His grave may be seen in St. Jude's Churchyard, Randwick, the perpetual care of which has been undertaken by the Mosman Council.
