My great great grandmother is listed in various records of Kilcoe parish in West Cork, Ireland, as Cathe Mountain. English tax records (Griffiths etc.) seem to use that appellation as a nickname for a group of Carties/McCarties/MacCarthys because the name was so common in West Cork. Our Cath married Michael Wholey of Lissaclarig. Children are first recorded to such couple in 1828 in Kilcoe baptism listings. Ancient texts refer to "Cartie of the Montyne". We assume there is a relationship but would appreciate any comments.
