I accepted the references (Chas. McIntire of Colonial Virginia) until an associate made a detailed study and found erroneous ssumptions. For that reason, we do not give credance to the lineage further back than Joseph Mounts, Sr. (d. by 24 Oct 1763/m. Katherine). The McIntire ladies assumed names like Muns tied to the Mounts line, etc, etc.
The Asa Mounts murdered Dec 27, 1803 is without question the son of Joseph Mounts, Jr (wife Eleanor) and brother of Mary Stalcup. Joseph, Jr.'s Nov 3rd, 1797 will names wf Eleanor, sons Jesse, Providence(idiot), Asa and also names daughters Hannah Cresap, Mary Stalcup, Elizabeth Mounts, and gr daughter Sinah Mounts. The son Asa illegally sold Providence's (idiot) portion of "Sugar Bottom". In 1811 or 1812, wf Eleanor tried to divest of idiot son Providence's portion and found son Asa had sold it.In 1815, Mary Mounts (wf of murdered Asa) sold Asa's portion of "Sugar Bottom" to Dr. Levi Jones and signed as "widow of a certain Asa Mounts who departed this life on 28 Dec, 1803". As it turned out, Jones later found Asa had already sold his portion also without his wife and family knowing it. Mary Mounts gave POA to Jones as "wife of departed Asa Mounts" so he could try to straighten it out.
At time of Asa's murder, there were three Asa Mounts. (1)The murdered Asa (brother of the murderer's wife and son of Joseph Mounts, Jr.) (2) Asa son of our Providence Mounts and grandson of Joseph,Sr., (3) Asa, son of Jesse & Sarah and grandson o Joseph, Jr.
Thanks for letting us know that Asenath mounts married Chenoweth. We did not have that.
