There was one MOWCHAN that passed thru Ellis Island but that has to be incorrect spelling. Try MOLCAN, MOLCSAN spelling. To locate an Ellis Island manifest in One Step use : www.stevemorse.org
Some search engines and websites :

Evanchak sounds like Ivanc'ak. The Slovak Republic's phone site is listing MOLC'AN, IVANC'AK, BARNA, RUSIN, HAAS, DURICA. I am not suggesting that this is the country you should direct your research. You need to locate a name of a town for your ancestor in order to proceed. Of course, an "original" spelling of the surname would help also. www.zoznamst.sk http://mapy.atlas.skhttp://mapy.atlas.sk for locating a town in SK
Maybe this might be the original spelling MOWCZAN or MOWCSAN.
In 1990 in Poland there were 143 people with that surname. www.herby.com.pl/herby There were 22 MOWCZANs that passed thru Ellis Island.
And Check Ellis Island website even for the spelling MOVCAN, MOVCSAN, MOVCSON.
Some listing for MOVC'AN in Slovak Republic's phone book. www.zoznamst.sk That is just a tid bit at this time. You need that name of a village to get you going in the right direction aka country. The LDS-Mormons have filmed some countries church records.
