I've managed to link my putatative ancestor Thomas Mason (b. 1742) to a Frederick Mason, taxable in Hereford township in 1752 via Thomas' inclusion in the muster files for the Strauss regiment in the Revolutionary War.
I don't think it is coincidence that the only Frederick Mason appearing in the 1790 census is for adjacent Montgomery County, PA, which was part of Philadelphia County until 1784.
I've seen several references to a Christopher (Mower) Mason owned a farm in Whitemarsh township in what is now Mongtomery County.
The families of a Christopher (Mower) Mason and Michael Billmeyer, of the well-known Germantown printing family were quite close, members of each being mentioned in the others' wills. And as I think I mentioned earlier, my putatative ancestor John Mason b. 1780 was married to a Regina Billmeyer.
Very unusual name, Billmeyer.I only find it there in Philadelphia, York County and some of the north central counties like Montour at a much later date.
In any event, the surname Moyer and variants seems enormously common in old Montgomery County.Anyone out there got any info on the Christopher Mower Mason family?
