My grandfather, Daniel Moynihan, came over to England during the First World War, he had 10 (at least siblings) but I didn't ask him a lot about the past because I so loved him.He always told me that we were "the kings and queens of county Cork". Of course he had to leave, because of inheritance rules, and he was a blacksmith, and as I understand it, a great horseman.
He was a mounted policeman in the Metropolitan Police - in London, and he told me about how he got off his horse to beat men up who were mistreating their horses, dogs, children - remember few cars then!
I should have asked him more - but when you're young you think life is forever, yours and those youcare about.
he loved animals and showed me lots when we went for walks, where a nest was, but you couldn't touch, because your smellwould be transferred, badgers, foxes, he was great!!
not just a country man, my mother remembers (she was married to his son) how wellhe could spell and be lyrical.
so, sorry, but he did have lots of brothers and sisters,
