I have seen people guessing that Patrick or Archibald Muckle might be the father of John. I have a copyof the shipping list where their names are listed. Another old time researcher says he worked on Patrick and could not find any connection. He found more than I can remember. I found a Patrick Muckleroy in Virginia where he married a widow. Yowell as I remember. I need to check my facts, but it didn't mention any children. Several of our descendants have used the name Muckle. My ancestor, Avington, ran a ferry called Muckle's ferry. One of Avington's granddaughter's maiden name was referred to as Jane McRoy in one of the "Goodspeed" books. One of "Old" John's supposed daughters (birth not recorded with the older 4)Mary Ann who married a Belk was known by Belk researchers as Mary Ann Muckle.
My point is that although it might be logical to have Patrick as an ancestor, I have never seen any proof of that. Some on line researchers have Patrick married to a Rachel. Those folks were so good about naming after parents and grandparents (no Patricks at all) that there is probably a Rachel back there somewhere, but I'd LOVE to find some proof one of my lineage societies would take.
Have you seen Tom McLeroy's book? He and his wife are deceased and they didn't have any more books. I did have one, but I passed it on to a closer descendant of William's since I am from Archibald.
