Joseph William Mudge,b. 1810,d 1892 in Curzon Village, was myggrandfather. He came to Newfoundland around the late 1840s from Exeter, England. One of his gdaughters said he came as a bookkeeper on the ship, but that may not be so, asthere aremany "folk tales" in that line His father was also Joseph; supposedly he was from Exeter, but I haven't found anything to confirm that. His marriage to Sarah Decker dau of James Decker and Elizabeth Paine, produced: Jane,Deborah,Sarah, Elizabeth, Joseph,Leah, Henry,Grace, William, Rosa(my Gmother),James, and Manasses,b 1871 in Bonne Bay,died 1912 in Woody Point, Bonne Bay. He married Martha Jane Wilton, dau of Mesach Wilton and Jessie Pike in 1902. Martha was b.1882 in Woody Point. There is a family story that there was a Mudge family crest that was made into a ring, and passed on to Manasses, he being the only surviving son; however, my efforts to track this down was fruitless. Manass, as the family called him, had one dau Lily Mira May, b.1906. That's about as much as I can give you on Manasses. I don't know whether his dau lived to adulthood; so many children died of chilhood diseases.
