I am looking to connect with the descendants of James Preston Mullins, Jr. (1848-c.1889), a merchant in Harts Creek District of Lincoln County, WV, circa 1884-1889. James P. Mullins was the son of James P. and Dorcas (Mullins) Mullins. His parents were listed in the 1840 Logan County VA Census, 1850-1860 Floyd County KY Census, 1870-1880 Boone County WV Census. As for James P. Jr., he married Louisa J. Collins (1855-1938), daughter of Isham Collins, on 25 May 1872 in Buchanan County, VA. They had the following children: Florence Mullins (1873 Logan County, WV - 26 November 1876 Logan County, WV); Mary J. Mullins (5 October 1873 Big Creek, Boone County, WV - 2 September 1936 Welch, McDowell County, WV), married John Dingess, son of Harvey S. and Mary Jane (Toney) Dingess, on 3 October 1888 in Logan County, WV; Victoria Mullins (born 23/26 April 1876), Frances Mullins (born 23/26 April 1876 in Boone County, WV), Albert Mullins (born 18 July 1877), Minnie B. Mullins (born 1 July 1879 Lincoln County, WV, married John L. Stafford on 4 October 1900), James A. Mullins (born 13 November 1883), Vincent "Doc" Mullins (born 1885, died before 1900?), Judge Mullins (5 May 1886 Logan County, WV - 22 Feb 1948 Wharncliffe, Mingo County, WV, married Victoria Musick on 22 July 1907 at Wharncliffe), and Isom R. Mullins (born May 1888). James P. Mullins was profiled in Hardesty's History of Lincoln County, WV, published circa 1884. He operated a store in the vicinity of the mouth of Big Branch of Big Harts Creek. Based on property records, James' business declined by 1889. During that time, his wife, Louisa Jane Collins, became involved in a feud in Harts. James appears to have died about 1889. Shortly thereafter, his wife began having children with Robert Lee Hatfield, son of Devil Anse. They had three children: Anderson "Little Cap" Hatfield (born about 1890, died before 1900), Craig Tolliver Hatfield (born June 1892, married Dixie Walls), and John B. Hatfield (1895-1930). The 1900 census says she and Robert Hatfield had been married for nine years.
