My father who is now deceased spoke of his uncle Ben Murley who left Kettle Creek near Celina TN. This probable happened around the turn of the century since my father was born in 1910. Uncle Ben was the brother of my Grand Dad James Logan Murley, Fannie Murley Overstreet and Mallie Murley Short. They were the children of John Murley and Surilda Short. I think uncle Ben was named after Benjamin Franklin Coe who was the son of Jesse Coe and Caroline Murley(Surilda's aunt and uncle) . Jesse Coe's sister Milinda Coe married Bill Short who was Surilda's father. Apparently Uncle Ben left home early as times were very hard back then and they never heard from him again. However, the family always rationalized hoping for the best telling everyone they thought that uncle Ben had gone off to the big city and became a lawyer.I have no idea where or why they got that information but it seemed that they truly loved him. We were unable to trace the lineage of John Murley Surilda Short's husband my great grandfather. Before my father died he said that John was adopted which left me at a dead end on tracing the paternal lineage. Before my aunt died she claimed that John Murley was really the son of a prominient local man named Logan which coincidentally happens to be my grandfathers middle name(strange). An excellent ongoing Murley family history can be foung on the web by "Larry Murley, A Geanealogy at http://www.crystalmountain-aromatics.com/genealogy/murleyhttp://www.crystalmountain-aromatics.com/genealogy/murley I think all Murleys owe Larry Murley a great deal of respect and gratitude for this excellent study. He's a real genius and I thank him for researching and preparing the most thorough family history I have ever read.If he doesn't have a Phd. he most certainly should.
