(Please forgive me.I am very clumsy at this message stuff and dallied to long, and lost control of my message.) I was looking up some information that was contained in Charles Hugh Murlin's book "The Murlin Clan" because I remembered that he made some notations about a few people attending music conservatories. So it would be interesting to hear from Murlin descendents about their musical relatives. My father, Jim Guilford, played in a band when he was in the ambulance service in WWI.He played picolo, and marched behind John Phillip Sousa, down Fifth Avenue in New York, playing Stars and Stripes forever, in a parade to raise bonds for the war effort. He also played flute and a six string banjo. His cousin, Fay Barney, sat down at the piano one day, at age four, after his mother, Eva (Thompson) Barney had finished giving a lesson in their home, and picked out tunes and proceeded to play. His mother recognized his talent and taught him to read music.Fay played anything. He played in bars.He played in the movie theaters in those days.He played in churches. My cousin, Bob, even made it possible for him to play the Mormon Tabernacle organ, since Bob was taking lessons from the organist at the time of Fay's visit. Do you have Murlin family members who are musical?
