Don't get me wrong.Murphy is a very common name.I am just pointing out there is an Old Murphy family connected to the Wayne family of Ft Wayne. He was Hunter Tim Murphy. You can read about him in the book The Rifleman by John Brick.
This family is also connected to Col Francis Marion. I am 99.9999% sure it's a coincidence but then there is the .00001% it might not be.
Actually, my research is centered on all the families of the the US Forts.Duquesne, Dunmore, Pitt, Wayne, Sill, Hays, Myers, Sedgwick, Churchill and so on.Just add a Fort in front of the name you get Ft Wayne, Ft Duquesne, Ft Myers, Ft Pitt, Ft Sill, Ft Hays, Ft Sedgwick, Ft Churchill and so on.
Very simple research that for most people, could be very complicated. That's because most people feel they got these names out of a phone book a full 20 years before Alexander Graham Bell invented the phone.
