My husband is a descendant of John Moriarty and Ellen Donovan. John moved to Riverside, Washington, Iowa, with his son Patrick and Patrick's family around 1869. John died in May, 1869, soon after the move, and is buried in St. Vincent's cemetery there. His marker says "Aged 100 years", but the 1851 Canada census shows he was born around 1782, the 1861 census says he was born in 1777. If the 1782 birth date is correct, then John was actually 87 when he died.
Patrick died September 19, 1871 at the age of 42. There is a family story that a grandfather in Iowa died when a house he was moving fell on him. We know how all of the my husband's other Iowa ancestors died, so if the story is true, then Patrick must be the one who died this way. I have tried to locate an obituary or newspaper story which confirms this, but have been unsuccessful. At any rate, it's one possible explanation as to why he died so young.
Do you know Ellen's date and place of death, and where she is buried?
