A New Editor for the New Book
Mrs. Patricia Crim Dietlein, of Alabama, is the new Editor of the long planned "new book." A former legal secretary, she is an accomplished genealogist and historian. She has contributedto several genealogical and historical books, including The Heritage of Alabama series for which she served as a chairperson for three separate county books. She has also published a book about the community in which she grew up.Pat is a member of several family and state genealogical societies, and is currently serving as the 2nd Vice President of the Birmingham Genealogical Society.
Pat descends from George Musick (1726-1809) and is a warm and pleasant person. Our Association could not be more fortunate than to have her undertake these duties, and she is already hard at work. Also, it is gratifying to report that she has a happy relationship with Margaret "Cassie" Rainwater and Janet Maune, our two longtime genealogists who will be invaluable advisors with the book contents. Work is progressing to edit the material accumulated over so many years, and there will be more to report soon.
Changing technology has swiftly modified plans for publication. The Association database now has over twenty thousand names, and more than five thousand families, totaling more than two thousand pages. It is now apparent that publication will be by computer and in a digital form. That will probably be inCD”sor DVD’s, or possibly even by flash drive/thumb drive. Any of those can be printed out by a user, and this form makes retrieval of information, and addition or modification by a particular family member; much simpler. Too, the use of photographs and copies of documents is greatly enhanced. More news of all of that will be forthcoming.
In addition, a name for the book will be chosen and announced quickly. We have several volunteers to assist in proofreading, and that effort will commence as the editing work progresses. Thanks to those volunteers.
The Association will soon be twelve years old, and it is gratifying to see those years of hard work and many promises leading to a successful conclusion. Thanks to all who have contributed, and for the patience for so long.
We welcome Pat to the Association, and thank her for undertaking this arduous work.
