I am still thinking that perhaps the name of Leudy is a clue...I still have not been able to find confirmation that Leudy Mustain was in fact Thomas Mustain's daughter, or that her name was anything other than LEUDY. (Until I find evidence that Leudy is actually short for Saludy, I am remaining open to the possibility that her name may in fact have been just plain LEUDY and as such may be an alternate place name or even a surname.)
Following some of my possible leads I encountered the following leads on the name Leudy:
Lehuda a ruined city near likes four geographical miles east of Tripoli Algeria means "Hill of Grace" and founded by a mixed colony of Native Gaels and Sicilians
Lleida is a place name located in the foothils of the Sierra Pyrenees in the provice of Catalonia and Saragoza de Aragon.
Leuda city founded in 1538 in Bavaria/Poland
Saluda Virginia is near Warsaw Virginia
(From genealogy of the Mascarene Islands)
Surname(s): ARLEUDA : OLIVIER
Looking for any information on Jacques Francois Laval Olivier and his wife Marie Malcey Arleuda. Believe Jacques was a trader (sugar).
Surname(s): DES ETAING DESTAING
I'm looking for information on the ascendants of my great grandmother Marie Louise Clemence DesEtaing
I am at present investigating a possible link to a Francois Maximilien Mission Legant du Bresse et Fougere who was a member of the Huguenot branch of the Maison d'Estaing. Based on a variety of documents from different sources I believe Francois may have been the grandfather of our Thomas Mustaine.
Francois' father moved first to Belgium and lived for a time in Prussia to escape the persecutions in France. The family was very well connected to both the Stuarts and Mechaines as well as the Bourbonnes. The Catholic branch were Maltese Knights with holdings in Tripoli Algeria. Francois himself was a member of the Knights of St John Hospitallers (Protestant faction) in London. Francois's father and grandfather differentiated themselves from the main Catholic branch of the family by changing the use of their surname from d/Estaing to Mission.
The d'Estaing family were originally from Southern France near the Pyrennes, Languedoc and Provence and were of Gaelic stock (Catalan/Occitan). Some of his ancestors maintained land holdings on the Canary Islands prior to its "discovery" and conquest by the Spanish. And decendants of this family can be found Germany, Holland, Spain and the British Isles. Francois was instrumental in the settlement of the Mascarene Islands in the East Indies and was accused and imprisoned for Piracy at least twice. It is interesting to note that his family was related to the Caraccioli family of Sicily.
