I am trying to find any information on a Thams NANCE in South Carolina in the first half of the 19th century.I have no dates on him, but I know that his wife was Theresa BEATENBOY.Their son was Thomas Jefferson NANCE, born December 17, 1832 in Union Co. SC.(I have lot more info on Thomas Jefferson if anyone is interested.)
According to family lore the name was originally NANTZ.Supposedly Thomas NANCE's father was a French soldier that came over to fight in the American Revolution. He later immigrated to and lived in South Carolina.
I know that there are two Thomas NANCES in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 census for Union Co.I do not know if they are related. One of them is referred to as a Jr. at one time. There is a Thomas V. NANCE in the 1810 census for Union Co.
