My great grandmother, Cassie McNaugher was the daughter of Charles McNaugher and Anne Ferris, born Aghadowey, Londonderry 1864, married John Beattie of Donegal and had 11 or 13 children my grandmother Eliza being the only girl. John is reputed to have bred horses for the British aristocracy. Eliza came to New Zealand after WW1 in which she lost two brothers and a fiance. She married Timothy Desmond Herlihy from Co. Kerry. Other names connected with the family are Wylie, Logan and possibly Armstrong and Brown.I have found many variations of the name, 40 and more. It is said to have come from McConnor so they were Irish not Scottish Irish as I had supposed. I have just put a message on for Peter McNougher and have given a URL which explains the transition of the name. Very interesting. I would be interested to learn more of your family. I thought I was the only one too.
