Dear John, My name is Riaz Felipe Castillo (aka Philip Gilbert Castillo.) My mother is Catalina Carmona Castillo, married to Manuel Quiroz Castillo. My mom's grandfather was Julian Navarrette Sr. He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on June 22, 1842. Julian's father's name was Santos and his mother's name is unknown. Julian was called Muchach, which is short for Muchacho. Julian married Manuela Burruel in December of 1860. Julian helped start the town of Bowie and brought his brothers Benito, Fausitio and Bernabe from Mexico. Julian and Manuela raised Romula (1898), Santiago (1899), Julian Jr. (1901), Manuela (1903), and Tiofila* (1906.) They also adopted Sally Soledo when she was 1 year old. Julian helped with the capture of Geronimo, died at the age of 92 and Manuela (his wife) died at 72. Tiofila* is my maternal grandmother. My mother was raised mostly by her grandparents Julian Navarrette Sr. and Manuela in Bowie and Dragoon, Arizona.
I have some pictures, stories and a book that Julian's friend James H. Tevis wrote about the southern Arizona called, "Arizona in the 50's." Can you please share with me some of what you have found out, because I think we are related? My wife, Bronwyn just started a genealogy website for my family http://navarrettecastillofamily.tribalpages.comhttp://navarrettecastillofamily.tribalpages.com. I was so happy to find and read your message board note. Thank you!
