Bill, You have no idea how happy I was to read your email. I would love to share family information with you and Aunt Delores. I feel like I've just opened an early Christmas present! Thank you so much for posting your message about John and Celia Nealon.
Yes, my Grandmother was Mae Kennedy O'Connor, married to Dr. James J.O'Connor. I visited his medical office when I was a very small child. I have a picture of him sitting at his desk. He was a wonderful, gentle man. He passed away in 1961 and my grandmother followed in 1975. She was in her 90's and smart as a tack! They had 2 children...James(my father, also a Doctor) and June. Both children had large families (8) and (5) and we are already celebrating the birthdays of Mae and "Dr."'s(as he was known) Great Great Grandchildren! As for Uncle Desmond Kennedy, I remember him well. His white hair, fair skin, and linen suits were quite unique. I still have 2 of his suits! He passed away May 3, 1974 having lived in the same house on Delaware Street, never marrying.
I have some Nealon and McNally information I've gathered
from the census. I also have some questions about that info. I hope you can help. According to the 1860 census,
Laurence (a shoemaker) and a Catherine McNally lived with John and Celia Nealon and their baby, Maria (who would eventually be my Grandmother's Godmother!) Yet, in the 1870 census there is a Laurence(coal miner) and Bridget McNally. Their children were listed as Sarah(18 yrs.)Ann(16) Thomas(13) Patrick(10) William(5) and John(1). Does either sound familiar? Did Laurence remarry or are there 2 different Laurence McNally's in Olyphant? Who are the Newton Children? I have found Herbert Newton (age 9) living with the McNally's on Sanderson Street, and listed as Patrick McNally's nephew,in the 1920 census. There is also a Catherine Newton (age 11)living with James and Effie Nealon at the same time. To whom do they belong?
I have so many bits of information re:Nealon, McNally, Kennedy, O'Connor, etc. that perhaps we should share through direct email as to not clutter the boards. Let me know what you think. I also have tin types we could share.I believe one is of Celia. I know several are of Annie Nealon Kennedy, Julia's sister. Do you have any old pictures to help positively identify these? Bill and Delores, I look forward to hearing from you both. Thank you so much..........Patty Mae O'Connor Devine
