I am trying to get clarification on my ancestor Robert Neely (b. ca. 1741), son of James and Margaret Grymes (Graham) Neely of Botetourt County Virginia.Based on my research, this is what I believe:
Robert married Susannah Griffith around 1761.Robert had land in Botetourt County, but he sold it around 1764 while living in Halifax County.I believe he and Susannah moved there shortly after their marriage, and their son David Marion was born in Halifax County, followed by William, Robert Jr and Nancy. All 4 children married between 1790 and 1799 in Halifax, and as far as I can tell, all left Halifax soon after.I cannot tell when Susannah died, but I find no mention of her after the land transaction.
Sometime around the turn of the century, at least one of Robert's brothers moved to Williamson County.I think he moved with him.I see references to Mt Pleasant in Maury County, but I have not found any records to support this.
Meanwhile, back in Botetourt County, another Robert (a nephew) remained active in the community and took the place of his grandfather James, who was my Robert's father. This Robert died before the turn of the century.I think a lot of researchers believe the nephew Robert is actually the son Robert.Again, I do not believe this to be true, but I am still trying to hammer this out.
Any proof of the migration of Robert Neely and his wife Susannah Griffith would be greatly appreciated.
