Hi Georgene, It's been a while since we chatted. I have really been digging, and I thought I would pass on some information that I just found.
The Hezekiah P. Neal of the Scott Co. census was indeed the son of Grimes who died there in 1839.He also ended up being the brother of my 4xgreat grandmother Esther Jane Neal Allen. Grimes names two of his son's as executors, William B. and Hezekiah P.These two were quite the pair, to keep it nice. After the death of thier father there were numerous cases where people were taking them as the executors of the estate of Grimes to court.I have gone through several of these, (sad to say a couple were where he had mis managed his own sisters affairs and her daughter and son in law took him to court as he was also the executor of his sisters husbands estate.) In none of the court cases, and they streched up into the 1860's, was Hezekiah ever a non resident of the county. Also in the case where his niece took him to court, some of the records he produced were witnessed by the William B. his brother. So there is no doubt that the Hezikiah living in Scott was the son of Grimes.Plus this Hezekiah was born in 1802.I have located his grave and have the information from his tombstone. So the other Hezekiah in Wayne Co. is probably the son of William and Rhoda, which is closer to where they were living when William died anyway.
I have the information on these cases, but need some time to transcribe them, and put into a file that I can share.I just got them from the VA. State Lib. in Richmond.
