I have this note:
John R. (Robert) Gibson, To Samuel E. Nelson (Neilson?) receipt for $800 price of Eley, age 16, Wit: W. N. Richburg and Isaac Baynal.
We have long thought that the ancestor Robert Gibson, b:c1720 was from Ireland before moving to Carolina.
In 1805 - Robert had a grant of 200 ac on the NS Santee River, bond, Matthew Neilson. Also 307 ac grant to James Gibson surveyed for Archibald Connors.
In 1813 Robert Gibson - has James Gibson, Evan Benbow and Samuel Neilson.
In 1818 - James Gibson, Sr. will, adm: James and Evan Benbow Gibson.Signed Samuel Neilson and Evan Benbow.
Robert's sons were John James Gibson (who had a son named John Nelson Gibson), and Phineas Gibson who was father to James Gibson, Sr. above.
Looks like there was a strong bond with the Neilson family.Would you have any more on the Samuel E. Neilson of SC?
