Posted queries on Cousins Connect and Family Search sites looking for Nelligan. My records go back to Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland where a Maurice Nelligan married Mary Joy? and they had children Garrett 1, John 1, Bridget, Mary, Margaret and a David. The boys initially went to USA around 1876 and the girls followed. However the girls returned to Ireland to look after their mother who was burnt in a fire. The boys in USA separated with 2 coming to Australia. Garrett 1 remained in USA and had children and grandchildren with linking names of Whipple, Howell, Schillinger, Dewitt, Robinson, Snodgrass, Browder, Gonzales, Murdock, Cleaveland, Hamilton, Forestall, Yabroff, Pridgen, Hayden, Brown, Bentz, Harris, Bean, O'Donnell, Golling, Boss, Christie, Dalton and House, to name a few.I visited USA in 1974 with my parents and made contact with a Francis Edward Nelligan (born 11/1/1914 in Stockton USA) and a Ruby Cleaveland (born 26/10/1914 in Bolinas USA). Francis ran Nelligan Fodder Store in Santa Rosa. Francis had a son - Michael Nelligan (born 1/3/1939 in Santa Rosa Cal USA) who married Adeene Engel Hamilton and lived in Santa Rosa Californa. They had two sons, David and Todd, with Todd marrying a Michelle Forestall.Francis has died and had brothers Garrett Thomas 3rd (born 20/7/1909 - died 17/9/1972 San Remo) and Leo Paul (born 20/7/1924 in Stockton USA) and sisters Gene Marie(born 3/12/1917 in Fresno), Helen Ann (born 8/8/1922 to become Sister Margaret Mary).
I am attempting to get a contact to establish a Nelligan family tree that goes back to a Garrett 1 (born 4/7/1854 in Ireland, moved to USA in 1876 and died 12/4/1931) and was married to Mary (nee Prindiville born 1853 in Ireland and died 1929). Garrett's parents were Maurice Nelligan and Mary Joy of Listowel, County Kerry; Ireland. If anybody can help with any of this, please email me. Regards from Australia.
