Do you have ties to NEUMANs or NEUMANNs with the following connections....?
~The Danish West Indies (St. Croix) or surrounding Caribbean islands;
~New York City (*not* of Jewish heritage), especially East Harlem or the Bronx;or
~Denmark or the Slesvig/Holstein region along the Danish/German border.
If this seems even remotely familiar to you, please post here (for the benefit of other researchers) or contact me directly (click on my name above to see email address).
My NEUMANNs emigrated from Denmark to St. Croix during (approximately) the early 1800s, and most came to New York City from the island in the 1880s/1890s, settling in East Harlem and later the Bronx.Much of the family went to California, some to New Jersey, with only a few remaining in New York.I have info on most of the branches except for descendants of Godfred NEUMAN(N), who was a passenger on the ship 'Fontabelle' from St. Croix into NY in Feb., 1903.I have not eben able to find any further record of him.
Thank you, in advance, for any help you can offer!
