FairFax Virginia Journal Douglas R. Nevitt, 83,¶ retired federal official Douglas Randolph Nevitt of Whispering Pines, N.C., formerly of Newington, died of cancer June 26 in a North Carolina hospital. He was 83. Born in Newington, Mr. Nevitt was a member of Pohick Episcopal Church until he moved to North Carolina in 1989. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and retired in 1974 as a supervisor with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Mr. Nevitt was an avid gardener and golfer. His first wife, Hazel Bunce Nevitt, died in 1959. He also was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Marie Nevitt of Whispering Pines; a brother, Francis M. Nevitt of Whispering Pines; two nieces; three nephews; and a great-niece and three great-nephews. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pohick Episcopal Church, 9301 Richmond Highway.
