Martha,
Thank you for your reply.I first got my information on Martha Parrott Williams from a book written in 1979 by Margie Williams Baucom, "HISTORY and GENEALOGY of the WILLIAMS FAMILY."Besides listing Martha in the book, she had handwritten in the back, "Jacob Parrott's son John Parrott and wife Mary's Daughter, Martha Parrott married Rev. Joseph Williams, Jr.I live about 15 miles from the cemetery where Joseph and Martha are buried and visit there quite often.Their son Parrott was my GGG Grandfather and I have grown up hearing about my Parrott and Newborn ancestors but I just recently started researching them. The spelling of the name seems to have changed about the time they came to Anson County as the old wills have it spelled Mewboorn. The Sampson County , North Carolina Heritage book has an article on the history of Seven Mile Primitive Baptist Church which Joseph Williams, Sr. helped organize. The article states, speaking of Joseph, "He married Mary Mewboorn, the only daughter of Thomas Mewboorn, an Englishman, and his wife Eleanor.Thomas and Eleanor are the forebearers of the entire Mewboorn lineage in the U.S. today."The article goes on to say that, "After they left Bertie County they came to New Hanover (now Sampson) County in 1744 and acquired a land grant in the Goshen Community. Here their son, Joseph Williams, Jr. married Martha Parrott."Joseph was ordained a Baptist minister and was a Revolutionary war soldier from Duplin (now Sampson) County.Sometime after the war ended in 1781 Rev. Joseph Williams, Jr. and wife Martha sold their land and moved to Anson County, N.C. at the request of the N.C. Safety Commission to start new churches, which he was very successful in doing. The article was written by Callie Jones Hinson (whose ancestors played a prominate part in starting the new church), 1983 Church Clerk and J.M. Mewboorn, Pastor,1967-1974. (A Mewboorn descendant.)
I have in my possesion a pattern Martha Parrott Williams used in her weaving.
